In order to promote the use of renewable energy, one in every ten petrol pumps in India currently offers CNG filling or EV charging. The Economic Times (ET) reported that 8,900 of India’s 84,600 fuel retail outlets provide alternative fuels like CNG, auto LPG, or EV charging stations. Out of them, 4,100 pumps have EV charging stations, while 4,000 pumps have CNG charging stations.

An industry executive said “India is witnessing a larger trend of liquid fuel stations turning into energy stations where a customer has the choice of ordering petrol, diesel, natural gas, or electrons as per his needs. It brings convenience to customers. It also helps oil companies guard their future profits.”
Numerous oil retailers in India, including Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum, have agreed to supply natural gas in many areas of the country and are obtaining the necessary licenses. India now has around 4,700 CNG retail outlets overall, rising from 1,270 five years ago. The number is anticipated to surpass 10,000 in 7 years, according to ET.
The government and other stakeholders have put pressure on oil corporations to do more to promote the use of cleaner fuels and get ready for a time when gasoline and diesel are not the most common transportation fuels. Additionally, over the next few years, 22,000 pumps will have EV charging stations installed by Indian Oil, BPCL, and HPCL.
State-run fuel distributors like Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum have adopted the natural gas industry with enthusiasm and obtained city gas licenses to supply significant areas of the nation. Additionally, they have partnered with licensees to install CNG dispensers at their gasoline pumps in some areas where they lack city gas licences. This has facilitated a more rapid distribution of CNG pumps around the nation.
