Hyundai Motor and Shell Collaborate to Enhance Electric Vehicle Charging Network in India

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) and Shell India have collaborated to transform the charging infrastructure for EVs in India. In a significant move to promote clean mobility and expand the EV ecosystem, the two companies have officially signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) at Hyundai’s headquarters in Gurugram, Haryana.

The agreement entails a joint effort by both to deploy 60 kW DC Fast Chargers across 36 EV dealerships of Hyundai Motor India. Moreover, Shell is also exploring the possibility of installing more powerful DC 120 kW fast chargers in these dealerships. Therefore, demonstrating their commitment to delivering faster and more convenient charging solutions for EV owners.

Additionally, Hyundai has developed its own charging management system (CMS) that caters to all EV owners, regardless of the brand of their vehicle. This CMS enables EV owners to easily locate the nearest charging station and make payments for the services provided. As part of their collaboration, Shell’s EV charging stations will be integrable into Hyundai’s CMS, ensuring a seamless charging experience for customers.

Presently, Hyundai boasts a robust presence in the Indian market with 72 EV dealerships spread across 45 cities. The company offers two popular EV models, the Ioniq 5 and the Kona Electric. With the installation of the new charging infrastructure, Hyundai aims to enhance customer convenience and further promote the adoption of electric vehicles throughout India.

The Managing Director and CEO of Hyundai Motor India highlighted the importance of strategic collaborations aligned with the government’s vision of clean mobility. He emphasized the significance of partnerships like the one with Shell in expanding the EV ecosystem and encouraging customers to embrace electric vehicles.

The collaboration between Hyundai and Shell is a substantial step towards addressing a key challenge faced by the EV industry in India—the lack of a robust charging infrastructure. By leveraging Shell’s expertise in energy and charging solutions, combined with Hyundai’s commitment to sustainable mobility, this partnership is poised to play a vital role in driving the widespread adoption of electric vehicles across the country.

India’s transition to electric mobility has gained momentum in recent years, propelled by government initiatives and growing environmental consciousness among consumers. The expansion of the charging infrastructure is a crucial component of this transition, as it addresses concerns related to the availability and accessibility of charging stations.

With the signing of this MoA, Hyundai and Shell have taken a significant stride towards establishing a reliable and convenient charging network for EVs in India. The partnership aims to provide a seamless charging experience, bolstering customer confidence in the feasibility of electric vehicles and contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
