To cope up with increasing petrol/ diesel prices, the Kolkata police department therefore introduced 226 electric vehicles in their fleet. Evidently, as per reports, these electric vehicles will be leased for eight years and will help obliterate 200 diesel vehicles with a lifespan of 15 years. The Kolkata police fleet has currently 4000 vehicles, but for legal and special work, they hire vehicles from outside. Whereas, TOI reports that additional CPs have been hired to coordinate with various agencies that can deliver EVs quickly.
